Google effectively leaked the new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro itself weeks ago, and their official reveal finally came during the company's #MadeByGoogle '23 keynote Wednesday. Both devices are now available for preorder at Amazon, Best Buy, in the Google Store, and at major phone carriers ahead of their launch on Thursday, Oct. 12.

The Pixel 8 has a speedy Google Tensor G3 chip that supports AI features, a 6.2-inch Actua display (said to be 42 percent brighter than the Pixel 7's screen), and a battery life of up to 24 hours per charge. It also sports an updated main camera with a new ultrawide lens featuring Macro Focus mode for crisp closeups.

Design-wise, the Pixel 8 is slightly smaller than its predecessor and has rounded edges, satin metal finishes, and a polished glass back. It comes in three different colors — Obsidian, Rose, and Hazel — and starts at $699 with 128GB of storage (configurable up to 256GB), which is $100 more than the Pixel 7.

The Pixel 8 Pro upgrades the base model with an even brighter 6.7-inch Super Actua display, a new temperature sensor, a bigger ultrawide lens, an additional telephoto lens, and a polished aluminum frame with a matte glass back. It starts at $999 with 128GB of storage (configurable up to 1TB), a $100 bump from the previous-generation Pixel 7 Pro, and it comes in three colors: Obsidian, Porcelain, or Bay.
